EMERgency planning and preparation:
Group 1 and group 2
YOUR TASK:
Your tasks as a combined group is to come up with tips, solutions, and safety guidelines when a tsunami or earthquake threatens Japan. Your combined group will create a survival kit and safety measures for these two natural disasters. Think; what knowledge about safety and natural disasters have you gained that you would like to share with others who may not know what to do? Follow your tasks down below to complete this part of the project. If you need help getting started, just ask!

PLEASE NOTE THAT TWO CLASS MEETINGS WILL BE HELD. ONE WILL REGARD SHARING LEARNED INFORMATION TO GROUP 3 AND THE OTHER WILL REGARD BRAINSTORMING A NEW TECHNOLOGY THAT CAN HELP THE JAPANESE DURING NATURAL DISASTERS. I WILL TELL YOU WHEN THESE MEETINGS WILL HAPPEN.
FIRST: Your first task is to share your information. You probably realize now that tsunamis can be a deadly side effect from earthquakes. Although why tsunamis happen after earthquakes may be a bit difficult to see sometimes. After sharing your information, check out the simulation linked in the red button below this task. After, have your group draw a picture or make a model out of clay to show how the two relate to each other. This way, group 3 can have a better understanding when everyone teams up later.
SECOND: Think about what we learned last week about safety and first aid kits. Using this website, found here, and this mind map with some questions, found here, brainstorm a survival kit that could be useful during a tsunami or earthquake. To get to the earthquake page, look to the left under natural disasters.
THIRD: Using this new website along with the next half of the mind mapping tool, search for safety procedures and plans that families and friends can use to find a safe place to hunker down in. Explore the different tabs to see what FEMA recommends. To get to the earthquake page, just click in the tab along the left side of the website.
FOURTH: Now that you've collaborated on a safety plan and a survival kit, let's make one of each! Let's start with the survival kit. You'll have a list of possible supplies that you can include. You can include all, some, or even add some if you feel that it would help. Just be sure to list the reason behind adding the new item. You can find that list here. After your list is finished, bring it to me and I'll have some supplies for you to create into a kit. You can find that list of supplies here. Just be sure to print it so you can make detailed notes.
